I truly wish you can find a copy of this book. It has been out of print for a very long time and copies are extremely rare.

Written by Dr. Robert L. Humphrey and edited by Capt. Jack Hoban, this is a field book type compilation of Dr. Humphrey's life's work and research. Not a quick read. it makes you think. If you care about problem solving cross cultural conflicts, violence resolution, and value life - then hunt one of these down. A must for all in the vocation services of being responsible for other peoples' lives. My two copies have fallen apart from being referenced so much over the past decade.

The Cold War may not really be around any more, but the vital lessons learned from how to problem solve in an ideological war are - and they may be in this book. A rude awakening for people from first world countries who plan to help make changes in other countries. The whole time I was reading it, I was expecting Dr. Humphrey to be introduced as a character. Effective change - for all - in all countries - begins with knowing yourself and others. Finding equality and finding the middle road.

One looked strangely like Marlon Brando - and lo and behold! The Ugly American is also a movie with Marlon Brando. (The book is much better of course.)
