NEW LOGO

Dear Jake & AJ…

The Lau Family Crest
The Physical Moral Compass – “Per Aspera”

Our crest was adopted Tuesday evening on November 27th 2007 at 2300 (11:00pm.) I was actually in the middle of a bout of food poisoning and could not go right to sleep and was still pondering the placement of the EM within the logo (not yet thought of as our family crest.)

It was formed over many years of trial and error understanding and organizing of the Human Nature Institute’s new logo which is from my previous Natural Duties logo.

The Physical Moral Compass - “Per Aspera”

“Per Aspera” means “Through Adversity” in Latin. It also goes with the Japanese Kanji character of NIN or Shinobi which in our Bujinkan translation means “To Endure and Persevere Through Hardship.” You should know that at this time we had just come out of a time of extreme adversity where we were about to lose everything financially when due to a circumstance of luck was relieved only a month previously. It was during the 2 year period of the endurance and perseverance through this time that watching the Star Trek Series: VOYAGER helped me stay inspired, motivated, critically thinking and problem solving – thinking outside the box and into new and old perspectives. It was a real insight into HUMAN NATURE itself and its condition. To be completely lost and alone, with the responsibilities of getting home to a safe haven, with only the occasionally help of persons inclined to do so – but also because it benefited them. You both would see and hear me watch the show during my rare few moments to myself and you would both hum the theme tune. “Per Aspera” comes from Star Trek’s StarFleet motto which is “Per Aspera Ad Astra.”

Tom Brown once said to me that Grandfather told him that the role of the Scout was the most important out of all the other roles. I had thought about that for a long time and discovered that no other duty-role could be performed without information first - one cannot just act - especially physically morally without proper profiling assessing, diagnosing, critical thinking and problem solving. It is only then can one know the who's, what's, when's, where's and how's of acting physically-moral to balance situations back to a life supporting and promoting environment. Therefore, I have placed the Profiler-Scout at the center hub and notice that all four life balancing duty-roles are connected and inseparable.

First, is the universal Natural Duty or universal "Responsibility" which must be performed in order to balance a situation back to one that is more life promoting and supporting.

Second, is the universal Role - or "calling" which must be taken up and performed.

Third, are the schools or places where the training and education in the principles and skills take place for my children and then for anyone else who wishes to also learn.

OLD LOGO

After clarifying the 4 Life Supporting-Promoting Balancer Roles for myself, I wanted a simple logo to remind me of them. At the Tracker School, I used to teach The Four Teaching Directions during the Philosophy 1 course. I decided on using Grandfather's four colors for his four directions to represent my lineage with the Tracker School.

Yellow, which represents the East and the season of spring, is a time of renewal and change and is symbolized by the rising sun. The rising sun is symbolically known for bringing enlightenment and clarity and chasing away the darkness of ignorance.

I chose this direction to represent the Life Supporting-Promoting Balancer Duty-Role of the Profiler-Scout.

Red, which represents the South and the season of summer, is a time when much of nature is abundant and thriving.

I chose this direction to represent the Life Supporting-Promoting Balancer Duty-Role of the Provider-
Hunter-Gatherer.

White, which represents the North and the season of winter, is a time when strength and endurance is necessary for hardships.

I chose this direction to represent the Life Supporting-Promoting Balancer Duty-Role of the Protector-Warrior.

Black, which represents the West and the season of autumn, is a time of great change and is also symbolized by the Black Bear. The Black Bear is known for his skill of knowing the herbs.

I chose this direction to represent the Life Supporting-Promoting Balancer Duty-Role of the Preserver-Healer.

Grey, the color in the center, is the color that, for myself, symbolically represents a very important lesson I learned in the Pine Barrens of New Jersey during the first Philosophy 3 course at the Tracker School in 1989.

I chose this color to represent the Natural Law & Life Value Theories and all the principle variables of Nature. "No two snowflakes are alike." There is nothing in Nature that is completely black and/or white.

But also - most importantly - I chose the colors of the Four Teaching Directions because there is and old saying that when the four races of the world represented by the colors - Yellow, Red, Black and White all come together - there will finally be world peace.
